CCGPS Advanced Algebra 12/1-12/5/2014

Welcome back from the week off! I was out of town most of the week, so I was not able to grade any tests. I will work on these tests this week. due to some other priority items upon my return.

Moving along on the conics unit, it is the ellipse of the day. These conics are very similar to a circle, so if you know a circle, you can graph an ellipse. The hardest part is the distinction of the vertices and the co-vertices.

Tutoring: I have a meeting Tuesday afternoon this week, so I will be in tutoring Monday afternoon, Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon after 4:30. I will not have Friday morning tutoring as I will be out of school.

I will create a problem for you to solve and to make the decision  on the commutative properties. Practice is the key for matrix multiplication. Class starts with combo cards for matrix operations.  I will allow you to work with a partner on the problems. Also we start on the 2 by 2 determinants, a basic formula to use.

Thursday
We learn how to calculate 3 by 3 determinants and how to find the area of a triangle using a 3 by 3 determinant. I will use colored pencils in class today and I will have a set for you in class.

Tday, we explore the identiy and inverse functions and how to find the inverse of a 2X2 matrix. Also, you learn how to set up a system of equations using matrices.

CCGPS Advanced Algebra ( week of 8/4)

Today, we begin with unit one, the statistics unit. We gather data and find the sample  standard deviation and create a box and whisker plot of the data ( both topics should be review).
